Double Indemnity (Review)

Adam: There's a lot of heavy weights coming in. He finds it, "brilliant." He finds their love between them, "HOT." Even though it's about money, it's much deeper and you see that he uses the girl, for him to succeed for once in his life. The movie has a lot success to it's over all equation.

Sam: He was disappointed in it's . He found it largely as huge let down. He felt no chemistry between the two characters. It didn't in gage him at all.

Who do agree with:
I am not on either side. I believe that they both have really good points. I liked the movie, but at the same time I felt like there wasn't a lot of passionate love between the two characters. Even though they were using each other in different angles of their own life style.

Film Noir Dialogue

Nahielly and Sofia

Dick: Hey. Baby how do you like my crate.
Babe: well it sure isn't worth as much as the ice on my wrist.
Dick: So, I've heard you have been a real chippy?
Babe: I don't know where you get your facts, but I am not no chippy dame.
Dick: Well I sure know that you aren't a Frau kind of frail.
Babe: Haha. Your not more than a daisy with the title of being a Dick.
Dick: Dolly, don't make me laugh.
Babe: Your just an egg with a worker as your Frau. And you know that's true. (walks away laughing)
Dick: (screams out) I'll see you at home babe, that is of course the big house. ( walks away smiling)

Method Acting

Method Acting: It is when you add and go along with the mood of the scene. You add and take away things from the overall picture presented.
Stanislavski: it is a peron that was a coach and mentor to many actors that advised them that the best way and tech. of acting is not not to act.
"Waterfront": now that I have seen the film I can see many ways that he uses method acting. Especially, the scene with the gloves he uses it with his reactions to every situation in each seen.

Favorite Actor(s)

My most FAVORITE! actor(s): Sandra Bullock, Rachel McAdams, and Ryan Gosling(:

Ryan Gosling: He is a serious and focused actor ( very handsome ) (:

Rachel McAdams: such a great love based and intense actress to her job ( one of my MOST! favorite movies )

Sandra Bullock: Great comedian (first time I loved her acting skills)

The Social Network!

What is Roger Ebert's hook?: His Hook quickly starts with him comparing the real and the movie character.

What background does he give?: The background that he gives is about the character and the real person of the movie.

Does Ebert discuss the film techniques?: He doesn't talk much about film tech.

If you have seen the movie, do you agree with his opinion about the movie?: I haven't :(

Screwball Comedy(:

A screwball comedy is a really fast paced movie. That has many witty comments that draw the audience continuously into the plot and theme of the movie. The actors in this type of movie talk fast, but timed precisely so every character speaks right after each other in a fast and timely fashioned order.

*ALL OF THE FILM WERE MADE IN THE SAME STUDIO*

For/Against MPAA

I honestly. feel like I must be against the whole MPPA. The MPAA is pretty much a group of people that have a lot of power. That decide weather kids, teens, or adults should be able to see certain material. I feel like it's not fair at any kind of sense. Who gives them the right to decide?

2nd Soliloquy

(p. 38)

Explain Hamlet's state of mind:

Hamlet's state of mind in this soliloquy, is that he fears danger and disaster to approach with his father's war like ghost/ spirit. Out of this outcome he believes that there are only secrets hidden to come out of his father's combatted ghost.

Embed quote in your own sentence structure:

Hamlet only has the option to believe that his father's presence is only the outcome of other's "foul deeds [to] rise."

Soliloquy

1. Explain what makes Hamlet's speech on pp. 26-29 a soliloquy:

- Hamlets speech is considered to be classified as a soliloquy because of his direct and out loud thoughts. That he expresses in an empty environment where only the audience is supposed to be hearing only.

2. What insights has Hamlet given the reader into his character's thoughts?
- The insight that is given to the audience is that he is disgusted by the fact that his father has not been dead for two months, yet. But, his mother is "O most wicked speed, to post with such dexterity to incestuos."

Casa Blanca

1. How does the film measure up to your criteria for a good story? What features of successful storytelling does it have or need? How can you account for its enduring popularity?

- This movie was great in my opinion because of it’s great and detailed acting. That brings you into the drama of the love triangle, plus their struggling situations that they must face. It accounts to an an enduring popularity

2. What do you already know about World War II and the political climate of the 1940s? What historical references can you find in the film? What political messages come through?

- I know that the Germans played a big part in this war in huge disastrous ways. Not just at the battlefield, but at home, too. So, did a lot of other countries play a big role in the war. The historical references that were found in the film were the major propaganda of PRO-war. The message is that it is important to get involved in order to help and not plain out give the Germans the chance to take over everything.

3. How are different nationalities and ethnic groups represented in the film? Are any groups notably absent? If so, how might their absence be explained?

- The movie was very detailed of how they were different by their different languages and sitting arrangements. It seemed like there were not as much jewish raced people, that were notably absent. It can be explained because they didn’t want people to get a wrong message in seeing them in the movie in some way.

  1. When Rick says, “I stick my neck out for nobody,” Captain Renault calls this “a wise foreign policy.” Later Renault tells Rick, “I suspect that, under that cynical shell, youʼre at heart a sentimentalist.” Ilsa accuses Rick of being self-absorbed.” With so much at stake,” she tells him, “all you think of is your own feeling.” Strasser expresses yet another view: “My impression was that he was just another blundering American.” How do you see Rick Blaine? If your judgment changed during the film, explain when it changed and why.

- At first he seems like he is cruel man at heart that gives no thought to other peoples lives and feelings. But this all changed once he allowed that young couple to get money and thus giving them a great gift to leave to America and be happier. From there on you can start to feel his caring side, especially the feelings towards IIsa.

5. When Ilsa arrives at Rickʼs Cafe Americain, she brings the past with her. How much of the past can you reconstruct from references in the film? What do you learn about Rick and Ilsa in Paris and about Rickʼs earlier life? How does this knowledge help to explain what happens in the film?

- When she arrives at Rick’s cafe she brings a lot of her past because of the fact of the matter of who she is. And how Rick never can stop thinking about her and what happened that night he got stud up and never had seen her. Until that moment with her existing and living husband. he could never not stop thinking of her, but her presence only brought all of the happy feelings and adventures with her. This shapes up the whole movie because of their dwelling and tangled love triangle that they have going on throughout the whole movie.

6. Explore some of the other relationships in Casablanca. What kind of marriage do Ilsa and Laszlo have? How well do Renault and Strasser share the power? What is the basis for Rickʼs association with Renault? Describe the bond between Rick and Sam.

  • IIsa and Laszlo have a pretty good relationship between each other. They seem like they love each other and they have great respect towards each other.

7. Contemporary viewers often notice the quantities of alcohol and tobacco consumed in the movie. Compare the use of these products on film in the forties to todayʼs films. What accounts for the differences you find?

- These products are not used not at all. Unless it is specifically dealing with some kind of hard character and characteristics of the movies whole over view. Now a days it is frowned up, especially if it is a twisted love story.

  1. At the end of the movie, Rick turns to Renault, saying, “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” What do you think he means? What would you expect to see in a sequel to the movie?

- I think that by this point they can have each others back, when it comes to situations that matter to each other. In a sequel of this movie, I would be expecting to see Rick still working at his Cafe and Renault being chief of the police department. Together running an under cover agency that deals with situations like the ones Rick helped out on.

Hollywood Censorship

What is the Hays Code ( Will H. Hayes, creator)? : it was a set of industry guidelines on censorship. These guidelines governed the many films of the United States motion pictures.

What were some of the rules of censorship? : Some of the rules were that no pictures or. views shall be shown to people that may insult their moral standards, correct standards of life, and law/ natural or/ human life should not be insulted.

Why do you think Hollywood followed these rules? : Hollywood followed these rules because as badly as they wanted to share their creative ideas and opinions. They couldn't because they were limited to two options ( either follow the rules : get their movie on the big screen or/ not be successful : not being able to share their films of not following the rules)

How have movies changed today? : They don't have many limitations to share their opinions to people, but they still do have some limitations that are frown upon by the critiques of the movies. ( same-sex interactions [sex] )

Dear, Norman Mailer....

Kamri Allshouse

Sofia Lara

Dear, Mr. Norman Mailer

I think that your obscure perception of books written by woman is not adequate especially because of your refusal to read books by woman. You are much like the men in my book ,which you would not of read, but may of been highly educated by its knowledge of the interaction of men and woman throughout the years. This in it’s own way could be considered deep even for the brainless male population that seems to inhabit and control the world. In my book A Room of One's Own it expresses the exact flaw in which you make of woman. Inside my book I suggest a curios question to the readers of how a woman would have been treated if Shakespeare had a sister. The truth is that the poor girl with many trapped thoughts never had the chance to unleash her skills she possessed in herself. It  would’ve not even mattered,  if she was as adventurous, as imaginative, as agog to see the world as Shakespeare was because it’s men like you that don’t give woman the chance. Not really allowing them to brake away from the typical male perspective of woman involved in literature. I can respect a few men’s opinions toward woman because they actually gave and took the time to analyze a woman’s intellectual capacity towards literature. I don’t agree with their opinions most of the time, but at least they gave woman a chance, not like you Mr. Mailer.  I conclude my letter by saying that maybe if you gave woman a chance, you may never know. You may be surprised of how wrong you are with your poor judgement of woman that are intellectual, even though you don’t agree. Again, like I have stated before you really have no right to judge me or any other woman that tries to unleash thoughts in this masculinist judged world.

Sincerely, Virginia Wolf
